Windross Farm Golf Clubrooms

The Manukau Golf Club was one of Auckland’s long established golf clubs who’s members in 2012 approved a move to a brand new course and facilities adjacent to the Ardmore Airfield south of Auckland. With the opening in 2016 the club also took the opportunity to rename the course, though retaining the original club name.

ASC Architects won a design competition in 2013 for the new clubrooms, with the brief requiring a modest, single level, functional, yet modern facility that would complement the new links-style golf course. The design concept should also be informed by traditional farm buildings in the district, and respect its rural setting.

Large verandahs on 3 sides of the both pavilions provide protection from the prevailing wind, and shaded seating areas in the summer whilst admitting direct sun in the winter. The main building houses the main lounge & café, which are separated by a large double sided fireplace, and can be further separated by operable walls for simultaneous events.

Other spaces include a main entry from the south, a minor lounge/meeting room, bar & commercial kitchen, administration spaces, service yard, and male and female changerooms which also open to the courtyard separating the two pavilions. The second pavilion to the west houses the proshop, club and cart storage. Both pavilion interiors feature high raked ceilings and exposed timber structure to visually reinforce the interior/ exterior connection.
